Office of Greenways & Trails Receives National Recognition for Accessibility Enhancements

On June 12th, the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Greenways & Trails (OGT) received a Coalition for Recreational Trails Annual Achievement Award. OGT was recognized for accomplishments in trail accessibility enhancements through one of seven national awards presented by the Coalition for Recreational Trails.

The RTP is a federally funded, competitive grant program administered by OGT in coordination with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration. Through this program, OGT provides grants for the development of recreational trail projects throughout the state and partners with American Trails to conduct annual Building Better Trails and Universal Trails Assessment Process workshops.

The Office of Greenways & Trails (OGT) is working to establish a statewide system of greenways and trails for recreation, conservation, and alternative transportation. Our efforts are guided by a legislatively adopted plan titled "Connecting Florida's Communities." View a summary of the plan (PDF 1.5 mb).

The Office of Greenways & Trails works directly with local communities, developers, private landowners and state and federal agencies to facilitate the establishment of the statewide system of greenways and trails.
